Environmental struggles and protests against the destruction of the natural environment are common in the Balkans, and Serbia is no exception. The most recent and symbolic of these is the protest against the installation of lithium mines in the west of the country. Une grande victoire a été obtenue en Galice contre un projet promu par Greenfiber, détenu par la multinationale portugaise Altri et le groupe galicien Greenalia, qui le présentaient comme une fabrication de fibre textile écologique à partir de Lyocell, mais qui cachait en réalité un projet de production de 440 000 tonnes de cellulose à partir d'eucalyptus.
