Colonialism, decolonialism and the Russian left
This text is written from anarchist positions. It attempts to raise long-standing questions to the Russian left opposition and to open a discussion about how progressive left and decolonial movements can connect in the fourth year of the colonial war of conquest being waged by the Russian state.
Why do left organisations connected with Russia not support decolonial movements? Why do existing left political groups have no alternatives to imperial logics of governance, no political (…)

The Venezuelan Euphoria Doctrine
Saturday morning (3 January 2026) in the Estación Central district of Santiago de Chile dawned with deafening joy. Between the high-rise buildings arranged in a square so that neighbours can see directly into each other's windows, screams and loud chanting resound. This area is the forced home of thousands of Venezuelan expatriates – the largest migrant group in Chile. Even before many had time to make their coffee, an atmosphere of unexpected victory and contagious euphoria had taken hold. (…)

What does Czechia's new ban on promotion of communism mean for the left?
An interview about whether promoting communism has really been banned in the Czech Republic and what this means for the local left-wing scene.
Pavel Uhl is a Czech lawyer specialising in public law. He provides legal services for the organisation Člověk v tísni (People in Need) and is a board member of Transparency International Czech Republic.
From 1 January, promoting and supporting communism has become a criminal offence according to numerous media outlets and politicians. What does (…)

PKRC Fourth Federal Congress (Pakistan): Building Healthy Democratic Traditions
After 22 years as general secretary of Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee, (a network of 36 peasant organisation in Pakistan), I stepped down and pave the way for a women activist to be elected as general secretary of PKRC.
The normal tradition in South Asian Left movement is that, once you are elected as one of main leader of an organisation, that is life long post.
However, in the past, I vacated my post as general secretary of Labour Party Pakistan after 10 years.
This is really to (…)

USA and Greenland Since 1951...
Since 1951, the USA has had an agreement granting it the right to maintain virtually unlimited military bases on Greenland. During the Cold War, they had 27 bases and other military installations with a total of 10,000 soldiers. Today, they have only one base with approximately 200 soldiers.
This base, Pituffik (formerly Thule), is located far from most inhabited areas of Greenland. The Pituffik base housed 6,000 soldiers during the Cold War. The existing agreement means that the USA could (…)

María Alejandra Díaz Marín on US military aggression against Venezuela: “We are spoils of war and an example and experiment for the world”
A “real opposition” exists in Venezuela, an alternative to both the extreme right wing of María Corina Machado and the increasingly authoritarian government of Maduro. This opposition, operating largely out of the public eye, is usually defined as dissident Chavismo, but also encompasses many other democratic and leftist forces.
Amongst its many members is constitutional lawyer María Alejandra Díaz, a prominent figure in the 2017 Constituent Assembly, now in exile in Colombia to escape (…)

Opinion | Israeli Indifference to Palestinian Suffering Is Fertile Ground for the Growth of Sadism
Suppose a state drunk on the sadistic pleasure of mass expulsion, torture and genocidal annihilation, in the name of 'total victory,' finds itself in a mental health crisis – if there is no psychiatric healer to treat it, can it at least be diagnosed?

Beyond the Headlines: Why Iran's Protest Wave Can't Be Reduced to One Name
As Iran's new wave of nationwide protests enters its 12th day—and as reports of a widespread internet blackout since last night circulate—an old debate has returned to the center of political discussion with new speed: are “calls to action” from political figures driving the streets, or are they mainly an attempt to ride a movement that is already happening?
BBC Persian tackled this question on its program Goftogoo-ye Vizheh, hosted by Farnaz Ghazi-Zadeh, in a conversation with Leila (…)

Pourtant, (…)

From Guarantee to Allocation: Rural Workers and the Indian State
The enactment of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G), 2025 represents the legal culmination of a process that has been unfolding in India for over a decade: the gradual displacement of employment as a legally enforceable right, redefined instead as an administratively mediated outcome. While public discourse has disproportionately centred on the symbolic removal of the word “Gandhi” from the title of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural (…)

From Flood Fund Plunder to Environmental Plunder – On the Moral, Political, and Ecological Crises Shaping the Philippines
Almost six months ago, Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. was compelled to launch his anti-corruption campaign amidst the continuous heavy rainfall in July and the devastation caused by super typhoons Tino and Uwan. These events exposed weak and ghost flood control projects, as well as collusion among public works personnel, political figures, and contractors. Yet, six months later, with no major results, two commissioners of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), (…)

Is Iran Trapped in a State of Political Paralysis?
As I write this post, Iran is experiencing its twelfth day of protests. This present cycle of unrest was ignited on December 28, 2025, by a group of merchants in Tehran expressing their dissatisfaction with the plummeting value of the country's currency. As a point of reference, Iran's currency was trading at 32,000 rials to the dollar in 2015, and today it's hovering around 1,470,000 per dollar. That's a 4,494-percent increase in a decade. This sharp plunge has put particular pressure on (…)

Russian Imperialism: A Historical Approach
We reproduce here a portion of the second chapter of Zbigniew M. Kowalewski's work, Révolutions ukrainiennes, 1917-1919 & 2014, which presents the historical characteristics of Russian imperialism. We have not reproduced its original footnotes. This fundamental book was released in Paris in September 2025. It is the product of several decades of research by the author on the missed encounter between the Russian and Ukrainian revolutions of the early twentieth century, as well as on the (…)
