THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT has sanctioned two government ministers from diplomatic allies of Taiwan. These would be Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca and Paraguayan Minister of Information Gustavo Villate. Such sanctions prevent them and their family members from doing business in China.
China does not appear to have sanctioned ministers of Taiwan's diplomatic allies in the past. This would be a new means, then, of pressuring countries to switch ties from Taiwan to China.
