تم افتتاح مكتبة نهرو لجامعة الأزهر في يناير عام 2000. تقع المكتبة في شارع جمال عبد الناصر في مدينة غزة
بعد 7 أكتوبر 2023، تعرضت المكتبة لعدة غارات جوية أدت إلى تدميرها تدميراً شاملاً. نُفِّذت هذه الغارات في 26 أكتوبر و4 نوفمبر 2023. وقد استهدفت هذه الغارات الجوية الحرم الجامعي بأكمله ، من خلال قصف جميع مبانيه في وقت كان عدد كبير من المدنيين قد اتخذوها ملجأً.

مشروع غزة تقرأ هو استجابة عاجلة لتدمير الكتب والثقافة القرائية في غزة. تدمير يؤدي إلى تدمير آخر: تدمير الشرط الأساسي لوجود القارئ نفسه، الذي أصبح خاضعًا لنظام حرب لم يعُد يعترف بالقانون، لأنه لم يعُد يعترف بأي حدود.

L'Université ouverte al-Quds a été fondée en 1991. Dès l'année suivante, l'université a ouvert des antennes dans la bande de Gaza, qui en comptait en tout cinq à la veille du 7 octobre 2023. Chacune de ces antennes possédait sa propre bibliothèque. Le 15 novembre, l'antenne de Gaza a été bombardée et détruite dans le même mouvement sous ces bombardements.
