La représentante Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) a rejeté les affirmations de Trump et du procureur général concernant les raisons de cet enlèvement ordonné par la Maison Blanche : « Il ne s’agit pas de drogue. Si c’était le cas, Trump n’aurait pas gracié l’un des plus grands narcotrafiquants au monde [l’ancien président hondurien Juan Orlando Hernández] le mois dernier. Il s’agit de pétrole et de changement de régime. Et ils ont besoin d’un procès maintenant pour prétendre que ce n’est pas le cas. Surtout pour détourner l’attention d’Epstein et de la flambée des coûts des soins de santé. »
